I love blurring the lines between gardening and ecology. I worked in conservation and horticulture for ten years before getting an MS in Plant Biology, then worked as Assistant Director of Heronswood Garden before starting this business. I'm currently a lecturer in Plant Sciences at the University of Rhode Island, where my research focuses on plant-insect interactions and pollinator conservation. My mission is to grow gardens that support pollinators, require fewer inputs, and evoke the beauty of wild nature. I make ecological gardening more accessible through education, informed plant selection, and smart gardening techniques.

Guiding Principles

  • prioritize health by avoiding synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides

  • conserve water by planting adapted species and establishing them properly

  • reduce emissions and noise by using electric or hand tools whenever possible

  • source local plants and materials to benefit ecotypes and small businesses

  • support pollinators with ecologically-informed plant selection and techniques
